Sadly, Princess Willie Mae Ross Holland, 92, joined the ancestors on October 26, 2023.  She passed away peacefully of natural causes at Rocky Mount Health and Rehab Center.  Our mother was born November 5, 1930, in Edwight, Raleigh County, West Virginia, to the late George W Ross and Leoma (Hancock) Ross.  She attended Franklin County Training School, successfully graduating in 1948, an uncommon accomplishment at the time.  She married Sam Holland, Sr., on August 12, 1950.  She was an unrivaled mother who would do anything for friend or family.  She was a sharp dresser, loved flowers and cooking, and was kind and respectful to all she met.  During her life she travelled extensively to California, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Washington, DC, Texas, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Puerto Rico, Curacao, Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon.  Third born to her parents, she leaves behind siblings Mary Ann Ross of Columbus, Ohio, and Nelson Eugene Ross of Wilmington, Delaware.  She is predeceased by four siblings, Lorenzo Ross, Theodore Ross, Dorothy (Ross) Edwards, and Frank Ross.  She leaves behind eight children, Sam Holland, Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina, John Wayne Holland of Roanoke, Virginia, Wanda (Holland) Chewning of Martinsville, Virginia (Cecil L Chewning, deceased), Marvin L Holland of Rocky Mount, Virginia (Regina Holland), Dolores (Holland) Poole-Solomon of Jacksonville, Florida (Jay Solomon), Tommy W Holland of Fayetteville, North Carolina (Susan Holland), Ben L Holland of Roanoke, Virginia, and Prince William D Holland of Atlanta, Georgia.  Willie Mae leaves behind ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Community viewing will be held at J L Stanfield Memorial Chapel at Stanfield Mortuary Service, 2491 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia, 24151, on November 2, 2023.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 1:00pm at Pigg River Community Center, 2410 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia, 24151.  Burial will take place immediately afterward at Coles Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 2125 Coles Creek Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia, 24151.  A reception will follow at the Pigg River Community Center.
