OBITUARY
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Viola Hughes received the call from our heavenly father to rest from labor and to receive her reward.
Viola was born on February 12, 1937, to the late Phil Thomas and Ora Lee Hughes in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Viola attended school in Franklin County, Virginia. She dedicated over 35 years of her life to JD Bassett and Bassett Superior Lines. Viola had a passion for fishing and gardening. She had a “green thumb” that brought forth beautiful flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Phillip Hughes and Thomas Lee Hughes and sister Annie Clementene Hughes, two brother n-laws: David Lee Trotter and Henry Ford Wade and one sister n-law, Ruth Hughes.
She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted sons, Thomas Christopher Hughes (Rita) and Anthony Lynn Hughes (Cynthia) of Rocky Mount, Virginia; two sisters, Helen Frances Trotter and Ida Rebecca Wade of Rocky Mount, Virginia, one sister n-law Priscilla Hughes of Rocky Mount, Virginia, two grandsons; Demetrius Marquel Hughes of Danville, VA and Isaiah Anthony Hughes of Harrisonburg, VA; two great grandchildren, Harlem Princeton Hughes and Willow Amelia Hughes of Danville, VA, a special cousin Michael Turner of Martinsville, Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viola will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
