On November 12, 2023, God sent his angel to receive Venable James Cooke into his mighty kingdom at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC.
Venable was born on December 13, 1944 to the late Samuel and Christine Cooke. He is preceded in death by two brothers Harold Roger Cooke and Donald Glasco Cooke, one sister Sharon Gay Cooke, one daughter Samantha Brooks, one grandson Cory Wright.
Venable entered the United States Army where he was deployed to Vietnam on October 4, 1965 to July 6, 1967. While he was in Vietnam, he received a Bronze Star. After leaving the active-duty Army he entered the National Guard Army in Rocky Mount, VA. Venable was a member of the Vietnam Foreign Affairs for 20 years and active member of Disability American Veterans office. Venable worked at Dupont for 25 years and later transferred to Microfibers for 4 years where he retired.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife Priscilla Cooke, three daughters, Michelle Cooke of Roanoke, VA, Cecile Fitzgerald of Rocky Mount, VA, Mary Hughes of Rocky Mount, VA; Two sons, Ricky Cooke of Glade Hill, VA, Elmer Shelton of Rocky Mount, VA; two step-daughters, Arlana Sims and Selena Stover of NC; five sisters, Lyndia Sannders of Rocky Mount, VA, Olivia Cooke of Thomasville, NC, Scharlean Randolph-Helms (Buddy) of Martinsville, VA, Jacqueline Dennis of Salem, Va, Garnetta Rogers (Will) of Euclid, OH; two brothers, Cornell Cooke (Hanna) of Berlin West-Germany, Ivey Cooke of Seattle, Washington; three grand-daughters, Titi’Onia Cooke of Roanoke, Va, Sabina Hall of Calloway, VA, Katlynn Creasy of Rocky Mount, VA; six grandsons, Adrian Cooke and Aiden Cooke of Glade Hill, VA, Ja’Quarius Cooke and Jer’miah Turpin of Roanoke, VA, Wayne Hughes, Ryan Hughes and Sammy Hughes of Rocky Mount, VA; eight great grandchildren.
