Thelmon Douglas Witcher, 98, was born on July 31, 1926 to the late Elijah and Exie Witcher in Penhook, Virginia. He served his country in the United States Army in 1946 and honorably fought during world War II.
After the military Thelmon held various positions, worked for Roy Stones and Virginia Carolina Trucking Company for 20 years, and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
He shared amazing stories of his life experience, the antics he and his siblings got into, and detailed action encounters with Japanese soldiers. If you knew Thelmon, then you know that he was a man who spoke his mind and held nothing back. He was always cracking jokes and staying up-to-date on world news.
In addition to his parents, Thelmon was preceded in death by his wife Sallie D. Witcher; first wife Amy Witcher and their son Toney R. Witcher. Four brothers: Alvester Witcher, Luther Witcher, Melvin Witcher, and Willie Witcher. Seven sisters: Addie Witcher, Beatrice Witcher, Bessie Cobbs, Eleanor Muse, Mattie Lemon, Mozelle Witcher and Yvonne Dennis.
Thelmon is survived by his son Donald (Octavia) Witcher and daughter Sylvia (Freddie) Niblett all of whom reside in Martinsville, VA. Grandchildren: Kenya Lane, Shakema Spencer, Michael Starkie, Mahogany Witcher, and Xavia Witcher. Two brothers: Bobby Witcher of Penhook, VA, and Buddy Witcher of Jacksonville, NC. Three sisters: Ola Holland of Rocky Mount, VA, Juanita James of Penhook, VA, and Sandra Preston of Boones Mill, VA; one sister-in-law, Diane Witcher of Columbus, OH. Two brother-in-laws Hillard (Marilyn) of Clark, NY, and Lynwood (Deborah) Clark of Martinsville, VA. Along with a special niece Alfreda (Clint) Carmichael of Pyeongtaek-si South Korea, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
