Mary Delphine DeShazo Holland 85, departed this life and entered into eternal rest with Jesus Christ on September 9, 2026. She was born on October 16, 1940 in Martinsville, VA to Mary DeShazo and George Smith.

Mary, or “Delphine” as some like to call her spent her early years in Martinsville until she married and moved to Rocky Mount, VA. Throughout her adult life Delphine maintained a tremendous work ethic and was a valued employee at Martin Processing, Basset Walker and MW Windows. In her retirement, she worked at the Holiday Inn Express preparing breakfast for the guests. At the age of 70 Delphine decided to finish something she started by going back to school and getting her GED. Through hard work and determination, she completed the course and graduated. It was one of her proudest moments.

Delphine accepted Jesus Christ early in her adult life and she was always talking about the goodness of God. She always gave God the praise, even in difficult times. She was a faithful member of Coles Creek Baptist Church for years and then Bright Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a member of the choir and being a Sunday School teacher. She was also known for her skills when it came to cooking food for church dinners, especially her cakes and pies. In her later years she attended You Can Make it Ministries where she was a member until her passing.

Delphine never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anybody. When you talked to her, you would be smiling and laughing thanks to her quick wit and great personality.
