On Friday, August 8, 2025, God sent His mighty angels to bring Pearl Holland Simmons, 91, to her heavenly home. Pearl was born on September 23, 1933, in Franklin County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Early and Ella Holland. Pearl married Roy Simmons on December 25, 1954, and to this union three children were born: Douglas, Adrian, and Davina.
Pearl graduated from Franklin County Training School in 1952. From an early age, she embraced her faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. Pearl was a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities, always embodying a spirit of love and dedication. She was honored as a Mother of the Church. She held this role with grace, wisdom, and unwavering faith, nurturing others in both word and example.
Pearl worked as a trusted caretaker for many families throughout her life, tending to each home with the same love and attention she gave her own. She led with a servant’s heart, humble in spirit and powerful in impact.
Pearl loved all things family. She found joy in reading, puzzles, and playing cards with loved ones. She also enjoyed traveling, watching game shows, and spending time with those closest to her. Pearl took great pride in cooking for others, and everyone knew her home was a place where you’d always be greeted with a warm welcome and a delicious meal. Her legacy of integrity, loyalty, kindness, and quick wit lives on in all who knew and loved her.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Simmons; one son, Douglas Simmons; one daughter, Davina Simmons; five brothers; and three sisters.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Adrian (Dorie) Simmons; one sister, Beulah (Clarence) McGhee; one brother, Joe (Loys) Holland; nine grandchildren, Tyneka (Rob) Wainwright, Sonya (Brian) Shrewsbury, Ashleigh Holland, Quentin (Danielle) Cook, Chelsea Simmons, Chanice Simmons, Adrienne Simmons, Gene Bernard Jr., and Amber Simmons; ten great-grandchildren, including a beloved great-granddaughter, Amauriey Simmons; a special nephew, Jimmie (Kaye) Hancock; a special niece and caregiver, Carolyn Holland Mattox; a bonus daughter Chanda (Matthew) Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends who held a special place in her heart.
