Kevin Lamont Phifer

August 4, 1972 — June 19, 2023

Rocky Mount

On Monday morning, June 19, 2023, Kevin Lamont
Phifer departed his earthly body to be present with the Lord.
He was born August 4, 1973 in Passaic, New Jersey to the
late Dennis Wayne Graves and Roslyn Phifer Hunt.

Kevin later relocated to Greensboro, NC with his family. He
completed career and educational training through Job
Corps. In 1991, Kevin began his 30+ year career at Booker T.
Washington National Monument in the Maintenance division.
He was responsible for painting, mowing and repairing
fencing within the park. His Booker T. Washington family
commented that he loved and had a passion for mowing and
maintaining the park’s grounds. He received many
compliments from staff and visitors on how beautiful the
grounds looked.

Kevin became friends with his brother-in-law John Mark
while working at Booker T. Washington. From that friendship,
he was introduced to John’s family and became a faithful
member of the Mount Calvary Apostolic Church and served
as a tenor on the church choir. But most important of all, he
met the Love of his life, John’s sister, Darlene Rene Mitchell
(his Doll) and they were married on August 5, 1995.

Kevin was and will be remembered as an honorable, loving,
charismatic, devoted husband, son, brother, brother-in-law,

uncle, nephew and friend. And not to mention, the greatest
Christmas Santa-present delegator in the business.
Kevin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years

Mabel Trapp; his great-grandmother Lula (Pula) Begelow
McCain; his in-laws the late Bishop J. H. E. Mitchell and
