Judy Hancock

Judy Evelyn Hancock was born Saturday, July 28, 1951, in Rocky Mount, VA to the late Walter Cobbs Hancock, Sr. and Mary Alice Dukes Hancock.   On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Judy transitioned making her tenure on earth 73 years and 356 days. 

Judy grew up in the 220 South Community and was a faithful member of the 220 Teens Club.  She graduated from Lee M. Waid School, attended Virginia State College and worked for many years in the banking industry in Virginia and Florida before changing her career to “Caregiving”. Judy had a love for books and was an avid reader, like her Mother.

The Most rewarding decision Judy ever made was in 1984 when she was baptized in water in the    Precious Name of Jesus at The Way of the Cross Church on 9th & D Street in Washington, DC, by Bishop Alphonzo D. Brooks. 

Judy was preceded in death by her Father and her brother, Walter Cobbs Hancock, Jr.  She leaves to cherish her memories; her mother, Mary Alice Dukes Hancock, a sister, Barbara Ann Hancock, one nephew, Christopher (Tanisha)     Hancock,  three nieces, Danielle (James) Jones, Christia Hancock and Chrisette Hancock, all of Rocky Mount, VA, a host of cousins, other family and friends.
