Florine T. Muse
Sunrise: June 2, 1941
Sunset: March 15, 2026
Florine T. Muse peacefully entered eternal rest on March 15, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 2, 1941, and lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
Florine received her education through the ninth grade and went on to work faithfully as a domestic worker. She was also employed with Lane and Step. A woman of strong faith, Florine gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained devoted to her church and community throughout her life. She was a faithful member who sang with the Heavenly Tone Choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, both within and beyond the church.
Florine found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking, playing bingo, enjoying a good game of bid whist, and relaxing with a nice cold Pepsi. Her warm spirit and generous heart touched all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Anthony Taylor; her parents, Gladys Gray and Hercile Smith; her grandmother, Fannie Patterson; her brother, Edward Gray; her granddaughter, Tambria Taylor; her nephew, Michael Young; her niece, Amanda Taylor; and her brother-in-law, John Chism.
Florine leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband of 36 years, Rev. Vandel Muse; and her six children: Patricia Gray of Roanoke, VA; Jimmy Taylor Jr. of Rocky Mount, VA; Harold (Barbara) Taylor of Roanoke, VA; Annette Minter of Rocky Mount, VA; Gwendolyn Muse of Penhook, VA; and Steven (Tiffany) Muse of Roanoke, VA.
She is also survived by her sisters, her twin Loline Young and Nancy Chism, both of Rocky Mount, VA, and Francis Gray of Roanoke, VA; and her brothers, Mark Gray of Rocky Mount, VA; Raymond (Connie) Gray of Roanoke, VA; David (Deloris) Gray of Winston-Salem, NC; and Billy Gray of Alexandria, VA.
Florine was blessed with a loving legacy of grandchildren: Michelle (John Henry) Williamson, Jamaal Jamison, Jeremy Hancock, Hope Wade, Keith Gray, Shannon (Tierra) Gray, Julius (Caredean) Jamison, Brad (Desiree) Taylor, Torie Edwards, Sierra (Tiara) Jamison, Mehki Muse, Diamond Muse, Christian Muse, and Miracle Muse; along with 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her biological family, Florine was also blessed with an extended family through the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lee Hopkins, Sr., and their son, the late Bill Hopkins. She leaves to cherish those special memories John (Teri) Hopkins, along with their children, Anna and Lee.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Special friends include Marie Knight, Valeria Muse, Josephine Edwards, and Lisa Callaway.
Florine’s life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering faith. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
