Elmer Wayne Tyree, 82, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2024. Born on March 9, 1942, in Rocky Mount, he was a man of deep conviction and passion who dedicated his life to the service of others.
For over four decades, Elmer worked tirelessly for the New York State Social Services Department, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and those he served. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and his contributions to the community will not be forgotten.
In his free time, Elmer found joy and solace in the world of jazz music, which was both a hobby and a passion. He was also a gifted writer, crafting poetry and screenplays that resonated with those lucky enough to experience them. His artistic contributions were a testament to his creativity and his desire to capture the beauty of the world around him.
Elmer is predeceased by his beloved mother, Ollie Beatrice Tyree, and his brothers, Herman Tyree and Garland Tyree. He leaves behind a cherished family, including his sister Gwendolyn Tyree Woody, and his brothers, Donald Tyree and Mark Tyree Kent, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service to honor the life of Elmer Wayne Tyree will be held at Stanfield Mortuary Service on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., located at 2491 S. Main St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151. The service will be a time for family and friends to gather, remember, and celebrate a life well-lived.
