On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at approximately 12:30 a.m., God sent his mighty angels to bring Donna Marie Simmons, 60, to her heavenly home. Donna was born on March 21, 1965 in Franklin County, Virginia.
She was the daughter of the late Louise O’Neal and Herman Casey. Donna resided in Franklin County her entire life where, at the young age of 17, she met her husband, Derick. They shared over 43 years together and were blessed with one child, Destiny, whom Donna loved more than life itself.
She was always hardworking and was employed by Plygem in Rocky Mount, Virginia for 23 years where she met several co-workers who became lifetime friends.
Donna loved going to church and was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount for almost 26 years.
One of her favorite pastimes was watching Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey. She was always tuned in and laughing at every joke and did not want to be interrupted by anyone as she enjoyed Harvey’s comedy.
Even after she became ill, she still enjoyed her tradition of going to Aunt Margie Jean’s for Sunday dinner where she was well fed and always happy to see Macon Simmons.
Donna’s true passion was loving and caring for her family, especially all of the children. She was a cheerful giver and always ensured that her family did not need anything. Despite her limited ability to communicate, she simply enjoyed the presence of her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by two infant sons, Warren Jamal and Derell Simmons; a special uncle, Thomas(Ellue) Taylor, whom she considered her father; one brother, Richard(Dickie) Taylor; and one brother-in-law, Erick “Trent” Simmons.
Donna leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Derick Simmons; her daughter, Destiny Simmons, and step-daughter, Ashley Wade; a special aunt, Eassie Taylor, who raised her and was considered her mom; four siblings: Judy (Clyde) Baker, David (Su) Taylor, Cotina (Timothy) Seay and Brenda Gill. She also leaves to cherish her memories, her aunts and uncles, Vivian Reynolds, Margie Simmons, Harold (Trina) Poindexter, Josephine (Danny) Edwards and Judea Williams; two brothers-in-law, Cedric Simmons and Thomas Simmons; two sisters-in-law, Pamela Kasey and Penny Simmons. In addition, she leaves special nephews, Devon Taylor and Jarale Journiette; two special friends, Mary Helms and Teresa Wright; and a host of other family and friends who held a special place in her heart.
