Cliff Herbert Simmons, 76, of Boones Mill, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 26, 2026. He was born June 13, 1949 to Beatrice P. and Cliff Junior Simmons, who preceded him in death.
Herbert, the name he preferred and was most known by, was a nature built man. He loved the earth and all it produced. He planted and nurtured his garden, enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything that involved the outdoors. He had a love of cars. He would dismantle a car motor and put it back together to his liking. He enjoyed his sports too, football, baseball, race car driving and other sports. He had a love for music and also enjoyed his Western movies.
A kind, affectionate and humble person, he never said "no". If anyone needed assistance, they could call on Herbert and he would do whatever it took to help, from building, digging, cutting, mechanical, helping his sister deliver food and meals for her church, helping his cousin with his business and farm, and much more.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Lori S. and Andre Saunders, of Roanoke; son, Herbert (Lil Herbert) Harris; sisters and brother-in-law, Lorraine Simmons, his dedicated caregiver, Boones Mill, Clarissa and James Gholson, Augusta, Ga.; brother, Ronnie L. Simmons, Roanoke; grandchildren, Elijah, Khalil and Leilah Saunders, Roanoke; aunt and uncle, Olivia and Kenneth Phelps, Roanoke County; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends.
Herbert's wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, 1730 Naff Rd., Boones Mill, with Minister Christopher Simmons officiating.
