On Friday October 20th, 2023, James McArthur Dillard also known as “Chimney” or “June”, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at his residence. He was born by midwife in Henry County, VA on  January 12, 1944. He was the son of James Henry and Susie Manns Dillard, who proceeded him in death. 

In addition to his parents, Chimney was also preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ann Hairston Dillard, one son, Anthony Dillard, two sisters Min. Louvenia (Cramet) Ross, Phyllis (Rodger) Menefee, and 8 brothers William (Ellen), Roger, Roosevelt, Matthew, Randolph, Leonard, Clarence, and Fred Dillard. Raised by his Paternal grandparents Pastor James (Etta) Dillard, maternal grandparents, Harry (Betty Hairston) Manns. Also Special  friends Pastor Mark E. Price Sr.,  Leon “Stoney Burke” Hairston, Rosabelle Price, Tyroshia Martin and Jesse Slaughter. 

He graduated from G.W. Carver High school class of 1962. After graduation He became a caddy for Stanleytown golf course, a bartender and a cook for paradise inn, he retired as a supervisor after many years from Tultex, and later worked for Miller Brewer company, and Henry County Public Schools. 
 
Chimney was a faithful member of the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, where he served as President of Usher Board. 

Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Mark Euron Dillard of the home, one daughter Von (Kim) Thomas and two sisters Lucy Dillard and Delphina (Sherman) Roberts Sr,  four grandchildren; Tavon, Tevin, Quan, and Elijah, two sister in laws, Delphina Ross Dillard and Carolyn Dillard Logan,  special friends Irma Martin, Dale Mitchell, Jerry (Elaine) Gravely,  Lucky (Judy) Veneable, Lloyd, Joe Wells, Albert Dorsey, JJ and Ricardo Dawson, Mother Rose Price and Carter Martin.

Also Adopted as his children, Mark Stanfield and Tina Stanfield, Krista, Anson, and his heart Alexis Stanfield, Nathaniel (Melissa) Hairston, Mark (Tina) Price and family, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.

A public viewing will held, at Hairston Funeral Home located at 301 Fayette St. Martinsville VA from 1:30-5pm on Tuesday October 24th. The Homegoing service will be at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church located at 933 Bethel Ln., Martinsville, VA  Wednesday October 25 1:00 pm with visitation 30 minutes prior. (12:30-1:00pm)

The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.

Other times, the family will be receiving family and friends at his home at 1113 Banner St. Martinsville Va 24112.
