Carneva Reeves Ferguson passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Good Samaritan.
Carneva was born in Penhook, Virginia, known as Truevine, March 11, 1944, to Mildred and Trollar Reeves.Carneva joined the Church at a very young age; she knew right then that she would make it her business to celebrate everything, such as life, and pursue all her dreams.
She met Roy McDaniel Ferguson, Jr., in April 1966. They married and shared twenty-three years together. From this union, two daughters, Terlisa Gale Ferguson (Franklin County), and Melissa Leigh Ferguson (deceased) (Roanoke, Virginia), were born. Later, they divorced. Carneva was a proud and loving grandmother to Shakia Renee Ferguson, who refers to her as Nanny, aka “Baby Nanny”. Carneva wasn’t just Shakia’s Nanny; she was EVERYONE’S Nanny and loved us dearly. She was a force to be reckoned with, but once you got to know her, she was sweet as can be.
Carneva was a true definition of a gentle soul with a big personality and a kind heart. She knew everyone would love her and cherish every moment that they had with her.
She went to Cunningham School in Richmond, Virginia. She utilized her skills on her two daughters. She worked at Community and Roanoke Memorial Hospitals in Housekeeping for a while until she decided she wanted her CNA. She started at Richfield — United Healthcare. She retired from Our Lady of the Valley.
Carneva was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Trollar Reeves; three brothers, Donald “Donnie” Reeves, Nelson Reeves, and Douglas “Doug” Reeves; one sister, Brenda Reeves; and her beloved daughter, Melissa “Missy” Ferguson.
Carneva leaves to cherish her memory of her daughter, Terlisa G. Ferguson of Roanoke, Virginia, and granddaughter, Shakia R. Ferguson of Salem, Virginia; her brother Jimmy Reeves (Norma-Jean) (Penhook/Rocky Mount,Virginia); her brother Howard (Roanoke, Virginia); and a host of nieces, nephews extended family, and friends.
We, the family of Carneva R. Ferguson, would like to say thank you for your love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
