Boyd Daniel Belcher was born on April 6, 1952, sharing the same birthday as his late mother, Millie Belcher. In 1970 at the end of segregation, he was part of the last graduating class of Lee M. Waid High School in Rocky Mount, Virginia. He was employed by a number of businesses, Including Martin Processing and Tultex.
Boyd enjoyed music, loudly, and could recount going to the Parliament concert and seeing the "mothership" land on stage as if it were yesterday. He loved to sing along with songs on the radio, even if he had the lyrics completely wrong. At Indian Ridge Baptist Church in Moneta, Virginia, Boyd faithfully cut the grass and made sure everyone had cold cans of soda.
Before the age of Google and YouTube, he would take apart automotive, plumbing, and electrical items in order to figure out how to repair them. He grew a variety of vegetables and if he had some freshly picked you were unlikely to leave his presence without him sharing some.
Boyd always provided for his family and regularly attended his sons' activities. Known as "PaPa" to his grandsons, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in the yard with them.
In addition to his mother, Millie Belcher, he was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Belcher, and James Junior whom he regarded as a brother.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy (Virginia) Belcher of Centreville, Virginia and Steven (Hannah) Belcher of Blacksburg, Virginia; four sisters, Julia Lumpkins and Madlyn Belcher, both of Silver Spring, Maryland, Almer Belcher and Ida Bell Belcher, both of Union Hall, Virginia; two grandsons, Philip Belcher and Ethan Belcher; nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.
