Alvin Muse

Mr. Alvin Monty Muse departed from his earthly home on the morning of Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. He was born on December 28th, 1948 to the late Mr. William Coleman and Hattie Eleanor Muse. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, brothers Arthur and Jeffrey Muse, sister Marion Tyree and Brother in love, Wayne Tyree.

Born as the 5th of 11 children, Alvin fell right in the middle and spent much of his time with his sisters and brothers. In fact, one of his favorite pastimes until his health declined was playing 500 Rummy with his sisters Shirley and Lois. During his youth, Alvin attended Lee Waid School. He then went on to work in housekeeping at Carilion Memorial Hospital until a horrific car accident disabled him. Alvin, affectionately known as “Tub” was an avid lover of baseball and fishing. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends Raymond “Big Foot” Patterson and Michael Hester in whatever capacity he could.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Donna Barbour and Denise Luke, both of Martinsville, Va., Two sons: Corey Swanson and Monty Swanson, both of Rocky Mount, Va. Five brothers, Rev. Vandal (Florine) Muse, Michael Muse, Timmy Muse, Keith Muse and Freeman Muse, all of Rocky Mount,Va. Two sisters, Virginia “Lois” (Tony) Hale and Shirley (Marshall) Ross, both of Rocky Mount, Va and one sister in law, Earlene Muse of Martinsville, Va. 15 grandchildren, Marquis, Marcous, Kiara, Zachory, Serenity, Aiyanna, Jairez, Caden, Jaquarius, Javion, Kasanii, Kamariya, Amora, Amias and Keaurii, 3 great- grands and a host of nieces, nephews and friends
